Last year, I project managed Scarborough Museums and Galleries’ John Atkinson Grimshaw schools project, which we piloted with Year 5 students at Wykeham School. Over five sessions, we delved into Grimshaw’s life and work, sparking the students’ imaginations through poetry, drawing, and ceramics.
We embarked upon a walking tour of Scarborough, where the students discovered Grimshaw’s favorite painting locations and saw the town through his eyes. Collaborating with artist Paul Digby, the pupils transformed their own photographs of Scarborough into beautiful paintings, which were displayed alongside Grimshaw’s works in Scarborough Art Gallery.
